Chillers for heating aquatic centres.

Résumé

Modern indoor aquatic centres are potentially high energy consumers, particularly the main swimming pool enclosures where energy is consumed for both pool water heating and for conditioning of the indoor environment. In fact the two main energy streams are both closely linked and finely balanced such that the more energy one applies to the pool water the more one must then apply to the environmental conditioning to achieve an acceptable balance of conditions. Water cooled chillers can provide a viable low energy cost alternative for those heating applications where condenser water at 40 °C is capable of providing the necessary heat transfer. Their viability is further advanced when the evaporator loads from which the heat is derived initially is in itself a useful cooling or dehumidification function. The authors give an example of use in Australia.
