Résumé

The results of some preliminary tests carried out on a small-scale natural gas trigeneration plant, which is going to be used at the Politecnico di Torino (Turin, Italy), are presented in the paper. This plant is characterized by an innovative internal combustion engine that has been coupled to a liquid LiCl-water desiccant cooling system. The main purpose of the plant is to provide a building with some teaching classrooms with air conditioning. The sorption of the humidity from the supply air is achieved by means of an LiCl-water solution that is capable of attracting the moisture when the solution is cooled, and then of releasing it into the regeneration airstream when the solution is heated. The plant has 126/220/210 kW of electrical, heating and cooling capacities, respectively. Some preliminary experimental tests have been conducted on the plant, and the results are presented in this paper. A comparison with empirical correlations reported in literature has also been conducted and discussed, in order to evaluate the consistency of the experimental data. The main results of this study are reported in detail in the following sections.
