Rôle, dimensionnement et influence du réservoir de liquide.

Role, sizing and influence of the liquid receiver.

Auteurs : CORBERÁN J. M.

Résumé

This is a review paper on the role and effects of the liquid receiver on a refrigeration unit as well as on its design. First, the paper examines the different roles that a liquid receiver must play in a refrigeration system, and the requirements that they impose to the design of the device. The paper then presents a critical review of the real necessity of incorporating such a device in a system and how to design it in order to minimize the total refrigerant charge. The different typologies of inlet and outlet ports are then described and commented. The minimum required refrigerant level above the outlet port is discussed and a simple expression for its evaluation is presented. Then, some strategy and rule of thumb for estimating the required total volume of the liquid receiver are presented as well as the requirements about pressure relief valve or vent pipe. Finally, the two different ways of connecting the liquid receiver in the system: through-type and surge-type, and the two possible positions: horizontal or vertical, are described and its effect on the system operation fully analysed.
