Résumé

This theoretical study investigates a novel circuit for compression heat pumps (CHP). This circuit can increase the heat pump's efficiency and the heating circuit's temperature level. A thermoelectric heat pump (TeHP) subcools the refrigerant at high pressure after the condenser. The external fluid at the condenser outlet is used as a heat sink for the TeHP. Due to the low temperature lift, the coefficient of performance (COP) of the TeHP is high and can be even higher than the COP of the CHP. Alternatively, the heat pump's heating capacity can be increased by about 13% at a constant COP using propane as refrigerant. The highest impact of the proposed circuit is reached as a replacement for a direct electrical heater in bivalent operation. Another significant advantage is that the TeHP can control the compressor inlet temperature and, thus, the compressor outlet temperature. In the design process, a higher efficiency of the refrigerant heat exchangers can be chosen without exceeding the maximum permissible compressor outlet temperature.
