Résumé

An apparatus, i.e. a prototype room temperature active magnetic regeneration (AMR) refrigerator/ heat pump, is under construction. The regenerator is a microchannel heat exchanger made of magnetic material having hydraulic diameter around 1.5 mm. Water, the working fluid, oscillates in the regenerator loop driven by a piston-cylinder displacer which operates in a range of revolution (rpm). A magnet moves on a slider transversely across the regenerator controlled by a pneumatic arm. The relative motion between the magnet and regenerator was properly controlled in connection with that of the displacer so that the processes of the magnetization and demagnetization, which result in the volumetric energy sources in the solid magnetocaloric material, are synchronized with the heat transfer of the working fluid. Two concentric tube heat exchangers were used in the hot and cold ends. A numerical model for the microchannel refrigerator has been developed. The fluid flow and conjugated heat transfer in the microchannel regenerator was numerically simulated using FLUENT. The hot and cold end heat exchangers were simply treated with the e–NTU method. Preliminary numerical results were found in general agreement with earlier experimental data and simulation results. The numerical model will be validated using experimental data when they become available.
