Résumé

Novel heat exchangers using parallel refrigerant mini-channels have been developed to increase performance and reduce the amount of refrigerant used in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. Boiling flow oscillation (density wave oscillation) tends to occur in parallel channels, especially under low inlet quality conditions. This flow instability can degrade the heat-exchange performance and makes heat transfer prediction more difficult. In this study, the characteristics of boiling flow oscillation in two parallel minichannels with constant wall temperature, which is similar to the heat transfer boundary for actual heat exchangers in air conditioners, were investigated using a numerical simulation model, and the effects of flow oscillation on heat transfer performance were examined. The flow oscillation occurred above a certain value of the degree of wall superheat. The heat transfer rate became lower during oscillating flow than that during stable flow because of the periodic expansion of dryout.
