Résumé
This work gives a broad overview on the stability of state-of-the-art materials like silica gel and zeolites, as well as recently developed (silica-) aluminophospates (AlPO, SAPO). In addition, the results of hydrothermal stability tests for adsorbent composites under continuous cycling are presented. Powders and granules of pure adsorbent materials have been analysed by thermogravimetry with continuous cycling between 20/40°C and 140°C under humid conditions. This short-cycle test with up to 50 ad- and desorption phases gives a first impression on the adsorbent stability. The benefit of a first stage short-cycle test is demonstrated impressively, as some materials show huge losses in capacity of up to 90% within 50 cycles. In a second step, composites consisting of a metal support and different adsorbent materials have been assembled. A cycling-test rig has been developed to expose these samples to a lifetime stress by means of continuous cycling between 20 and 130°C under constant humidity. This long-term cycle test consists of up to 50,000 ad- and desorption cycles, accompanied by several intermittent external characterisation within a special thermobalance to determine the remaining sorption capacity. Two samples, a FAPO-5 coating and a Zeolite-Y foil, have demonstrated a good stability with only 8-10% reduction in sorption capacity over the whole 50 000 cycles. Furthermore, a strong influence of water saturation has been observed with another Zeolite-Y sample leading to an overall reduction of 21%.
