Système cryogénique à 1,8 K pour la séparation des faisceaux de "kaons" par radio fréquence.

A 1.8 K cryosystem for the radio frequency separated kaon beamline.

Résumé

Fermilab is a US national laboratory where particle accelerators produce intense proton beams for high energy physics research. Experimental proposals for around the year 2003 require secondary beams of high purity K mesons (kaons): unstable particles produced by colliding extracted protons into fixed targets. Superconducting radio frequency cavities will be used to separate the desired kaons from the swarm of collision debris. The experiments require about 10 meters of deflecting rf structure. The oscillating electric fields will dissipate about 10 watts/meter in the solid niobium superconducting cavities, dependent upon operating temperature. A helium refrigeration system capable of 300 watts at 1.8 K is under development.
