Résumé

One of the problems with district heating is summer operation, during which the facility either has to be shut down (and consequently cannot provide hot water) or remains in operation, with over-capacity and energy losses as a result. An investigation of a district-heating network in Graz shows that heat-driven sorption systems may be used in district-heating networks to provide consumers with an additional product - cooling - and at the same time to increase the efficiency of the network as a whole.
