Résumé
The purpose of this work is to give an overview of application of VRV technology to the refurbishment of various historical buildings. We will demonstrate the suitability of this technology in order to guarantee the proper internal climate level as well as to match the peculiar needs of historical buildings. For this kind of building, subject to a complete refurbishment, it is essential to know how deep the intervention will go, especially concerning air conditioning systems, which have a strong architectural impact on existing historical constraints. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account two more important parameters: internal thermal comfort
and reduction of energy consumption (both through the use of renewable energy and the application of highly energy efficient devices). Through the analysis of four case studies we will show how the mentioned goals can be reached in real cases, characterized by different age and conservation, dimensions, constraints and specific needs. VRV technology resulted particularly suitable thank to its flexibility and ease of installation, as an improvement of direct expansion inverter heat pump devices, characterized by high energy efficiency and comfort achievable. We will also take into account further needs of historical buildings such as ease of maintenance, damage risk containment and reliability.
