Strong magnetic fields, smooth welds, lighter-than-air balloons - helium is indeed a versatile element. World consumption is rising between three and five percent annually. This inert gas is plentiful on the sun, but scarce on the earth. Linde has brought a new helium plant on stream in Algeria to cover the growing demand.
