A dynamic multi-level model for adsorptive solar cooling.

Résumé

This paper focuses on the development of a dynamic multi-level model for simulating the operation of an adsorption chiller for solar cooling. The model developed is based on the energy and mass balances for the system’s parts and considers variable climatic data. The chiller investigated was a two-bed silica gel/water unit, which represents the basic configuration for this kind of system. The dynamic study of the machine is important to ascertain the feasibility of solar-driven adsorption cooling and for optimization purposes. In the base case simulated, the peak incident radiation was 36.25 kW, and in these conditions the mean hot storage temperature was 66.3°C. The mean specific cooling power was 45.53 W/kg with a mean cooling capacity of 2.7 kW obtained from a heating capacity of the two adsorbent beds of approximately 5.16 kW and a mean condensing capacity of around 7.9kW. The daily average COP was 0.54. The efficiency of the solar radiation collection system was 0.66 and the mean efficiency of the solar cooling system was 0.55. Obtaining time- and variant-related results makes it immediate to see the effects on the system’s behavior when a given parameter is changed.
