Résumé
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the strong global warming of the last 50 years cannot be explained by natural climate variations alone. It requires the inclusion of the effects of human emissions that led to a 0.6 K increase in average global surface temperature during the 20th century. The current climate models predict that, global temperatures will rise by a further 1.4 to 5.8 K by the end of the 21st century. In refrigeration and air conditioning systems, electrically driven compressors and refrigerant circulating pumps are primarily responsible for the greenhouse gas emissions contributing to this temperature rise. Therefore, the use of heat powered refrigerators has the potential to produce a significant reduction of damaging emissions, particularly when the driving power comes from renewable or low-grade waste heat sources. However, many conventional heat powered systems are limited in application as they either require additional electrical supply or have low efficiency. This paper describes absorption systems that do away with mechanical pumps and introduces a state of art novel stand-alone high efficiency pumpless LiBr-H2O absorption cycle.
