Résumé

In the air-conditioning design process, whenever the condition line is significantly steep, it becomes difficult to design a cooling coil whose characteristic process line is able to intersect the condition line at any point, making it impossible to reach a supply air condition. Accordingly, the usual design practice is to overcool the air stream below the desired supply air dry-bulb temperature, so as to accomplish the desired level of humidity. The overcooled air stream is then re-heated up to the desired supply air temperature level, usually by an electricity-driven heating coil. The proposed cycle uses a desiccant wheel and a cooling coil, allowing the thermal load to be decoupled. A numerical simulation of the proposed cycle suggests encouraging results regarding the efficiency of the cooling process.
