Résumé

Pressure pulsation control in volumetric compressor manifolds is still one of the most difficult problems in the design stage as well as during compressor plant operation. Many attempts have been made to increase the accuracy of the manifold modelling. The one and zero-dimensional approaches are too simplified to achieve sufficient accuracy to identify the exact resonant frequencies for the whole manifold. The 2D/3D approach is usually too complicated to achieve good results in reasonable computational time. Therefore, different approach is needed which would inherit the advantages of the accuracy of multi dimensional simulation with the speed and flexibility of classical Helmholtz method. The idea of the transmittance approach is the response to this need. The basis of the transmittance method is the assumption that any element of the manifold (i.e. damper, oil remover etc) of any shape, filled with any working gas, may be modelled using a four-element matrix. This part is similar to the Helmholtz model. The difference is that the matrix is obtained on the basis of 3D simulation using non-linear Navier Stokes equations. This can be done using CFD packages, such as FLUENT, PHOENICS etc. The CFD simulation using an impulse function as an excitation allows determining complex transmittances of the manifold element. Four transmittances are needed for unique matrix computation. These are the flow-pressure and flow-flow transmittances from both sides of the unsymmetrical element. The excitation is always the flow impulse and the response is flow or pressure function depending on the boundary conditions. The resulting elements have the same form as the commonly used four-pole matrix or the impedance matrix; therefore they may be included in the chain of matrices describing the whole vast compressor manifold system. The method to obtain transmittances and to calculate the resulting four-pole or impedance matrices for the system is shown.
