Résumé
The Fixed Vane Rotary Compressor is a new variant of the Rolling Piston Rotary Compressor. It is introduced to increase machine operational reliability by eliminating the vane tip-roller contact. However, this new geometrical arrangement of roller and eccentric introduces a significant frictional loss at the rubbing surfaces between the eccentric and roller, which, if designed inappropriately, may result in the machine seizure due mainly to the significant eccentric-roller friction. In this paper, a theoretical study is carried out to examine if the eccentric-roller lubrication is possible using oil film lubrication. Results show that such a lubrication technique is feasible. Theoretical results also show that, although the frictional loss at the eccentric-roller is greater than that in the Rolling Piston compressor, the overall frictional loss reduces by more than 10% when using R22 as the working fluid, and more than 65% when using CO2. The predicted values of minimum film thickness at the lubricated region of the eccentric-roller and the corresponding surface roughness requirements are achievable using current manufacturing processes. Geometrically, it is also found that small outer roller radius and large inner cylinder radius, along with a short compressor length, as well as large eccentric radius lead to higher values of minimum film thickness, which is desired in industrial applications.
