Résumé

An experimental investigation has been carried out to find the pressure drop during condensation of R-134a inside a horizontal circular tube. The test set-up was a double pipe heat exchanger made of copper. The vapor of R-134a was condensed inside a copper tube having internal diameter 8.33 mm at 35±0.2 oC temperature and the cooling water was flowing in counterflow direction inside the annular space of the concentric tube. The experiments were conducted for refrigerant mass flow rate in the range of 100 to 300 kg m-2s-1 and the vapor quality remained in the range of 0.1 to 0.9. It has been found that the pressure drop for the condensation of R-134a inside a horizontal tube is a complex function of vapor quality and mass velocity. Further, the pressure drop is more in high vapor quality region as compared to low vapor quality region. The experimental data for the pressure drop have also been compared with those predicted by different correlations and an empirical correlation is proposed for the two-phase frictional pressure drop multiplier. The results are useful in designing the condensers for various refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
