Résumé

Inadequate Indoor air quality is known to be a serious problem in modern life. Sufficient ventilation is crucial to maintain a good IAQ. However, over-ventilated buildings usually consume excess energy. The alternative is to use air cleaning devices to locally remove heavy contaminants. For particulate pollutants, air filtration is a quite matured technology; for gaseous contaminants, absorption purification is commonly applied untill photocatalytic filter laden with photocatalysts has become more popular recently. However, materials with these two features are always used together in air cleaner applications. It is very difficult to differentiate the contaminant decomposings caused by photocatalytic reaction and absorption. Hence, the efficacy of photocatalyst is sometimes suspicious when strong absorption materials presented aside. In this paper, a low-cost test method by modifying the JEMA odor removal test standard with an additional measurement of nitrogen monoxide and with a logical test procedure is introduced. The results of this study seem to overcome the difficulty in performance testing properly.
