Résumé

The objective of this innovating process is to upgrade raw biogas from landfill to a substitute of natural gas for grid injection or liquefaction. The CH4/CO2 separation, through permeable membrane for instance, is well-known and successfully applied, but the separation of air from methane inherent to landfill biogas source requires a dedicated process unit. Due to the potential occurrence of explosive atmosphere inside the unit, a design method is applied to develop a safe cryogenic process. Therefore, a novel risk analysis approach is followed using a Boolean Risk Tree with the purpose of a Design to Residual Risk object. The analysis is done, helped by the experimental feed-back of similar apparatus. After an iterative approach combining design and risk analysis, the final result is reached: propose a process defined in respect with a quantified acceptable risk level for such gas process.
