Résumé

The purpose of the paper is to present the results of an experiment where refrigerant R12 was replaced by dimethyl ether (DME) in two domestic refrigerators. No other modifications were made on them. The first refrigerator operated successfully for 28 months filled with DME. Characteristic temperatures of the cycle and air temperature in the refrigerator were measured. Time periods between successive starts and stops were timed as well. The second refrigerator was tested under controlled conditions corresponding to ISO 8187. Important operating parameters for both refrigerants (R12 and DME) were compared.
