Résumé

Chilled ceiling is a concept that is proving to be an effective solution to the increasing demand for energy efficient systems that also improve the indoor environment. This paper addresses the basic principles and application of different types of chilled ceilings available on the European market and compares relative investment costs for chilled ceiling, fan coil and VAV systems. The paper concludes with a discussion of European design guidelines and illustrated examples of existing projects that could lead to the adoption of this technology in Australia and New Zealand.
