Vers des matériaux sur mesure pour les applications des pompes à chaleur à adsorption.

Towards tailored materials for adsorption heat pump applications.

Résumé

Adsorption heat pumps have been studied extensively regarding the process design and sophisticated thermodynamic cycles have been developed. The working pair is usually selected a priori based on heuristics and experience. Since the working pair strongly influences the performance, this so-called direct approach may prevent finding an optimal result for a specific application. Hence, in this work the inverse problem is considered. The constraints and objectives are now determined by the process level and optimized material properties are identified by means of an adsorption equilibrium model that captures the essentials of the working pair. The model employed for this purpose is derived from the Langmuir equation and possesses only three physically-based parameters. Good agreement is found between the model and experimental adsorption data of zeolites. The inverse design of an adsorbent is then performed for an elementary adsorption heat pump cycle. Here, the COP is optimized as a function of the adsorbent model parameters. The results quantitatively resolve the influence of the adsorption enthalpy and entropy on the performance. Based on this information, adsorbent-adsorbate pairs can be classified by their suitability for a certain application and target properties for tailored novel materials can be identified.
