Out of the ordinary: Arctic village installs air conditioning

Better known for building igloos during hunts on the polar ice, Inuit in the village of Kuujjuaq in Quebec, Canada, about 1500 km north of Montreal, are installing air conditioners. The Kuujjuaq Town Council has purchased 10 air-conditioning units for the town office and convention centre. "Our Arctic homes are made to be airtight for the cold and do not ‘breathe' well in the heat with this warming trend" she said. Temperatures in Kuujjuaq, home to 2000 people, hit 31°C in late July for almost a week.
