Résumé

A novel absorber with its surface treated with temperature-responsive material (PNIPAM) is proposed and its performance is studied in this paper. PNIPAM coated surface is either hydrophilic or hydrophobic according to its temperature. While absorption process taking place on the PNIPAM coated surface, the released heat creates local high-temperature spots. The absorption solution droplets are then driven from the hydrophobic surfaces to the hydrophilic surfaces by surface tension difference. The temperature-responsive surface enables the formation of a thin liquid film on the absorber surface, which has the potential to increase the absorbing efficient. A study is conducted on the mechanism of the droplet movement on the hydrophilic-hydrophobic surface. Methodologies such as numerical simulation and visualization experiment are being conducted on the behavior and performance on the PNIPAM-treated heat transfer surface. The study is essential for developing a high-performance absorption system.
