Résumé

LNG is recognized as a critical energy source for the global transition toward a carbon-neutral society. Consequently, maximizing the utility of existing LNG assets is essential to ensure sustainable energy use without the massive capital expenditure of new construction. This paper presents a comprehensive approach for extending the service life of Tokyo Gas's LNG receiving terminals, which have been in safe operation for over 50 years.
While LNG terminals encounter diverse degradation challenges over long-term operation, this paper specifically focuses on in-ground LNG tanks. We prioritized this asset because its degradation acts as a critical determinant of the terminal's overall lifespan, necessitating sophisticated technical evaluation. Based on this series of verifications, we have validated that an 80-year service life (operating through 2050) is achievable. This conclusion was achieved by conducting precise life assessments based on advanced engineering expertise, utilizing actual data accumulated continuously over our extensive operational history.
Furthermore, to support this extended lifespan with higher reliability, we are advancing asset management by integrating over 50 years of accumulated operational data with AI technologies. As a prime example of this synergy between operational history and cutting-edge technology, we present the development of an AI-driven fault diagnosis system for rotating machinery. Utilizing our vast data foundation as an optimal training environment, this system has demonstrated a significant improvement in fault detection accuracy.
By fusing this solid physical engineering expertise with cutting-edge digital innovation, we aim to ensure a resilient energy supply for the future.
