Abaissement du point de congélation de divers coulis de glace.

Freezing point depression of various ice slurries.

Résumé

Added substances with low molecular weight are expected to result in more efficient ice slurries. By calculating ice slurry properties, heat transfer and pressure drop, it was investigated if ice slurries of low molecular weight additives result in efficient ice slurries, the molecular weight being a good indication of ice slurry efficiency. Ice slurries of three particular substances were found to have the most promising properties: sodium chloride, lithium chloride and potassium formate. It has also been suggested that substances such as antifreeze proteins can be used to lower the freezing point of ice slurries, but they can only be used to control ice crystal size or supercooling effects, not to depress the freezing point because of the additional temperature difference introduced with thermal hysteresis.
