Résumé

Many factors, such as new environmentally cleaner automotive fuel specifications have considerably increased the complexity of oil refining processes and consequently the energy consumption and air emissions in refineries. This paper studies how to integrate absorption refrigeration systems in refineries to increase energy efficiency and reduce air emissions in refining processes. The main conclusion is that although oil refineries are highly energy integrated plants, there are important sources of waste heat and there are many opportunities to use absorption cooling to improve process efficiency. The most promising cases will be considered for further analysis.
