Résumé

Flooding conditions have been studied to improve the performance of transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems. There is a compressor damage risk from excess evaporator liquid. Some solutions have been proposed to prevent that liquid from the evaporator goes to the compressor. However, most of them complicate the control and maintenance of the facilities. This article provides four configurations to work under flooded conditions while protecting the compressors. The experimental tests were carried out with 30 kW cooling capacity and varying the water inlet temperature in the gas cooler (secondary fluid) between 25 °C and 35 °C. The arrangements of two internal heat exchangers and a single-phase ejector are analyzed and compared. The proposed configurations in this article offer improved performances and compressor protection. Performance differences between them are not significant. Economic considerations should be studied to determine the optimal choice for nominal operating conditions.
