Résumé
The energy consumption of the most important critical issue of the refrigeration systems and its reduction has to be achieved without affecting the thermal performance of the system. The CRF developed and patented an innovative feedback for the temperature controller based on the introduction of an infrared sensor (MRT - Mean Radiant Temperature Sensor) that makes it possible to estimate the temperature of the refrigerated compartment more accurately, thus guaranteeing improved performances and energy saving. At present this quantity is measured with a conventional sensor (e.g. NTC type) that measures the temperature in one point so it is affected by local phenomena (eg. local air flow). The MRT sensor measures the temperature of the surfaces included in the field of view, making a volumetric measurement and being less affected by local temperature variation and being able to detect rapid surface variation due, for example, to the introduction of hot objects or to the door opening. When the MRT is placed so as to include in its field of view a portion of the door, it is possible to estimate when and how long the door is opened. The present work describes the experimental procedure to characterize the refrigerant compartment with infrared sensors and the development of a control strategy that allows increasing the efficiency of the refrigerator. A refrigerator has been set up with an infrared sensor in order to tailor the control strategy and in order to compare the efficiency of the refrigeration system with and without MRT sensor.
