Résumé

An automotive refrigeration system may lose refrigerant over time due to small leaks or due to permeable seals and hoses in the refrigerant lines. A loss of refrigerant can have detrimental effects on the system's performance. In particular, the observable effects are an increase in compressor cycling, a decrease in refrigeration capacity, a decrease in condenser pressure, an increase in refrigeration temperature, and an increase in the amount of superheat. This article is a complete analysis of the phenomenon, based on the second law of thermodynamics.
