Résumé

Current models adopted to evaluate effective flow and force areas of compressor valves consider a steady state condition for the flow through suction and discharge ports. Therefore, such models do not take into account flow inertial effects that occur especially in the opening and closing stages of valve displacement. This paper presents a study of inertial effects in the flow through discharge ports. To that extent, a numerical model based on the finite volume method is adopted, considering the interaction between the valve dynamics and the flow through the valve port. The results indicate that inertial effects can significantly affect the flow through the valve and make the standard concept of effective areas inappropriate.
