Résumé

A solvent, partially miscible with a refrigerant (e.g. water) and immiscible with an absorbent (e.g. LiBr), was employed to extract refrigerant from a weak absorption solution (59.5% LiBr-H2O); as a result, a strong absorption solution (64% LiBr-H2O) and a refrigerant-rich extract solution were obtained. The refrigerant in the extracted solution is recovered by cooling thanks to the change in the solubility of the refrigerant with temperature. There is no evaporation of refrigerant involved in the generation, so the heat input required would be reduced. Calculations indicate that the COP of the cycle could be increased by 20% compared with conventional single-effect absorption cycles at higher generation temperature. The possibility of finding suitable extract solvents is also illustrated.
