Résumé

Ejector design is the subject of recent concerns, especially for the enhancement of refrigeration and heat pump cycles based on natural refrigerants like carbon dioxide. In this study, a classical ejector refrigeration system is analysed to give insight onto the optimal operation pressures with carbon dioxide as refrigerant. The approach integrates for the first time an ejector model based on the compound-choking theory to predict the physically allowable operation of the ejector, to establish the allowable domain of and determine the operating pressures that yield the highest coefficient of performance. Interestingly, it was found that the optimal coefficient of performance is not necessarily found when the ejector operates at critical conditions, as commonly assumed, but possibly when the device is under off-design regime according to the operating conditions.
