Résumé

In this paper, a Pelton-type expander was developed to replace the throttling valve in small CFC-HCFC refrigeration system to recover the energy loss in the expansion process. Based on geometric and mathematic analysis, a simple backward-curved-blade impeller was designed and engaged in the expander, which can realize the work recovery with compactness and reliability in the small refrigeration system. In the validation tests, an AC generator was used to investigate the performance of the expander at different rotational speed at varying working conditions. The experimental results for a R-410A refrigeration system showed that the prototype ran smoothly at the test conditions with the highest rotational speed reaching 23 000 rpm. An optimum rotational speed of the impeller at varying test conditions was investigated. Further improvement has been discussed.
