Résumé

As part of the energy transition, it is crucial to ensure a CO2-neutral supply of process steam. A potential solution is to use high-temperature heat pumps in conjunction with renewable electric power to produce process steam, mainly used in the chemical industry at various pressures from p = (6 to 110) bar. This study evaluates a high-temperature heat pump using CO2 in a transcritical reverse Brayton cycle with an internal heat exchanger and an expansion turbine. The process involves compressing water to operating pressure, followed by evaporation and superheating. Different circuit designs and the main sensitivities are presented and evaluated. Within the study, it is demonstrated how the system can be linked to a two-tank storage system and the integration into an ideal chemical park structure is explored. An energy system analysis shows the economic potential of the process compared to other types of steam generation.
