Caractérisation du flux dans des soupapes de compresseurs utilisant le système PIV.

Characterization of flow through compressor valves using PIV.

Résumé

Reed valves used in refrigeration compressors open and close according to the pressure difference between the cylinder and the suction/discharge chamber. Once the valves are open, the pressure distribution established by the gas flow on the reed surface affects the valve dynamics. In order to design an efficient valve system with fast response, high mass flow rate, low pressure drop when opened, and good backflow blockage when closed, an in-depth understanding of the fluid flow through the valve is required. In this paper, an experimental investigation of the flow through a simplified compressor valve model is reported using a PIV (particle image velocimetry) system. The experimental data reveal a number of flow features present in actual valves that affect the compressor efficiency, such as recirculating flow regions on the valve seat. The analysis is complemented with results provided by numerical simulations and a hot-wire anemometer.
