Résumé

This paper presents a review on the pressure drop in pipes for ice slurry flows. The variation of the pressure drop as a function of slurry velocity, pipe diameter as well as ice concentration in the slurry is discussed. The stratification observed for particular flow conditions and its effects on the pressure drop as well as the role of particle diameter in the evaluation of pressure drop are addressed. The paper also presents an analysis of the four rheological models namely Bingham, Casson, Power and Herschel-Bulkley that predict the behaviour of ice slurries in tubes. The study found that the rheological models agree with the trend of the experimental data. Further research is required to develop a new unified rheological model that could extend the applicability of the model under varying conditions.
