Résumé

Recent commercialization of refrigerants based on hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) and hydrochlorofluoroolefin (HCFO) technology has been accompanied by confusion and misconceptions concerning their impact on the global environment. This paper discusses the atmospheric fate and atmospheric degradation of HFO and HCFO refrigerants, as well as the environmental impact of their degradation products. A similar analysis is provided for the non-halogen refrigerants propane, ammonia, and carbon dioxide.
