Résumé

The paper reports the salient features of an experimental investigation of the compressor response and the heat transfer behaviour of a room air conditioner working alternately on R22 and R134a. The base experimental unit was a 1-ton, window-type room air conditioner, initially working on R22. The evaporator temperature was kept constant at -4, -2, 1 and 4 °C in both cases. The results indicate that at each evaporator temperature, the discharge pressure is much lower in the case of R134a than that in R22. The increase in discharge pressure in the case of R134a is almost steady but in the case of R22 it is steeper at higher temperatures.
