Résumé

Loop heat pipes have been investigated for satellite cooling. These devices require no electrical power and are also suitable for electronic cooling under the effects of gravity. Since capillary pumping force is the driving force that circulates a working fluid around the loop without external mechanical or electrical power, the start-up behaviour of both producing the vapor-liquid interface for capillary pumping and pushing the liquid refrigerant away from the vapor paths is important in starting the loop. In a previous study, we experimentally visualized the vapor paths in the evaporator to observe the flow-behaviour of liquid refrigerant and refrigerant vapor and constructed a model for the evaporation process in the vapor paths. Next, in this study a model for calculating the evaporative transit behaviour in the capillary wick was constructed in order to evaluate the thickness of vapor section in the capillary wick, which is necessary for calculating the pressure loss.
