Résumé
Water is the only working fluid that is completely harmless to the environment, non-flammable and can be used in the subcritical regime at higher temperatures commonly seen in industrial processes. It however has the disadvantage of possible sub-atmospheric pressures, high pressure ratios, low volumetric heating capacities and high compressor discharge temperatures. In this context, adding ammonia to water is investigated to improve the sub-atmospheric pressures, high pressure ratios and low volumetric heating capacity. Furthermore, refrigerant injection in the compressor is studied to reduce the compressor discharge temperature, taking into account a specific experimental design. Considering temperature glides of the secondary media up to 40 K, pressure ratio reductions of up to 34.2 % and volumetric heating capacity increases of up to 55.8 % were found when comparing the water and ammonia mixture to pure water. In addition, a maximum COP increase of 9.8 % was observed. Even more promising results are expected for higher temperature glides. However, if either the heat source or the heat sink lacks temperature glide, no improvements are observed. Regarding the refrigerant injection, the COP could be improved by 5 % for both refrigerants at the optimum refrigerant injection ratio, while reducing the compressor discharge temperature..
