Résumé

R290 (propane) is an environmentally friendly refrigerant with promising applications in electric vehicle heat pump systems. However, its condensation characteristics in compact plate heat exchangers (PHEs) have not been sufficiently studied. This study experimentally investigated the condensation heat transfer coefficient (HTC) and frictional pressure drop (FPD) of R290 in a PHE over a wide ambient temperature range ( 25 ◦ C to 50 ◦ C). The results indicated a transition in the flow regime from forced convective condensation during cooling to mixed/ gravity-controlled condensation during heating. By integrating Pearson correlation clustering with SHAP anal ysis, a systematic feature selection approach was employed to develop robust predictive models. Newly proposed correlations for HTC and FPD achieve high predictive accuracy, with the HTC correlation reaching a mean ab solute percentage error (MAPE) of 11.7% and an R² of 0.904, and the FPD correlation attaining a MAPE of 16.3% with an R² of 0.943. This study provides essential design tools and foundational data for optimizing R290-based thermal management systems in electric vehicles.
