Confort thermique et qualité de l'air.

Thermal comfort and air quality.

Auteurs : PUJOL C., KADDOURI A.

Résumé

A wide variety of tools, ranging from numerical simulation to tests on fixed installations and on trains in commercial service, are used to define specifications for the sizing of air conditioning units on rolling stock. Alongside these tried and tested techniques, SNCF also uses the Fanger scale to assess comfort. This standardized method for predicting the percentage of dissatisfied passengers is an effective tool for defining a precise thermal comfort rating, as it takes the full range of parameters into account: ambient temperature in the carriage, wall radiation temperature, air speed at passenger level, relative humidity, passenger activity, passenger clothing and metabolism. The introduction of new legislation on environmental protection and passenger satisfaction in terms of comfort and hygiene has led to greater awareness of public health problems linked to air quality. A number of air treatment solutions are being studied, for smoking carriages in particular, and should lead to an improvement in air quality.
