Résumé

Refrigerated spaces maintained at temperatures below 0°C for extended periods of time commonly require a means of maintaining the ground below the floor slab above freezing. A gap that currently exists in the literature is consolidated design guidance for both fluid and air-based underfloor heating systems including pipe/tube/duct (channel) size, spacing, supply fluid temperature, and fluid temperature differential. This paper presents the results of a heat transfer analysis of underfloor heating systems for a range of refrigerated space temperatures, heating system conduit size, heating system conduit surface temperatures, and floor insulation thicknesses. The results will provide designers of new or retrofit installations with needed information to improve the thermal and energy performance of underfloor heating systems.
