Conversion du HCFC-22 au NH3 : expérience pratique dans un grand centre de distribution.

Conversion from HCFC-22 to NH3: practical experiences from a large distribution centre.

Auteurs : JENSEN S., CZYCZELIS S.

Résumé

This paper details the design and installation methodologies applied during the conversion of a large existing cold storage facility from refrigerant HCFC-22 to NH3. The description follows the refrigerant conversion from initial assessment of heat loads over plant concept through to the presentation of energy consumption and maintenance records for the first two years of commercial operation after the conversion. Particular emphasis is placed on detailing the air cooler performance improvements realized as a result of the change of refrigerant and how the air coolers were converted from dry expansion HCFC-22 feed to NH3 liquid overfeed with minimal alterations to coil circuiting. Comments are provided in relation to the financial viability of the refrigerant conversion taking into account the reduction in energy consumption, the reduction in refrigerant losses and the reduction in plant maintenance costs.
