Résumé

Cryopreservation of stem cells has been widely used in autologous settings for the treatment of hematologic malignancies and solid tumors such as breast cancer and childhood cancer, but is also available nowadays for allogenic transplantation. Peripheral blood stem cell transportation is characterised by rapid blood cell recovery after transplant and without need for general anesthesia for the collection of stem cells. Cord blood cells have also been used for transplantation. The banking system has now begun to operate with the hope of expanding donor pool for unrelated transplantation. This article deals with cryopreservation and storage of stem cells, mainly peripheral blood stem cells, to correlate with clinical relevance of these techniques.
