Résumé

A compact, fin-and-tube heat exchanger for air conditioners was developed to save natural resources as well as to improve heat transfer performance. The heat exchanger is environmentally friendly, because it could reduce both the amount of materials used to construct the heat exchanger, and the energy consumption associated with producing the materials without deteriorating its heat transfer performance. To achieve the design goal, narrower fin width was adopted. The reduction in the heat transfer area was compensated for by improving heat transfer performance. The heat exchanger developed showed 10% higher heat transfer coefficient, 50% lower tube weight and 20% lower fin weight compared with conventional heat exchangers with 7.0 mm tube diameter.
