Résumé

A double-output absorption heat pump chiller (AHPC) has been developed. This machine provides hot and chilled water simultaneously in its double-output mode. This cycle is similar to a double-effect absorption cooling cycle. In the double-output mode, it heats hot water by using chilled water as the heat source. The chilled water is cooled in its evaporator, and the hot water is heated in its absorber and condenser, which are cooled with cooling water in conventional absorption chillers. We theoretically studied this cycle on the Duhring chart and found that the coefficient of performance (COP) of heating improved from 1.0 to over 2.0. On the other hand, the highest pressure in the cycle was also higher than in the conventional water-cooled cycle because the hot water temperature (e. g. 45°C) was higher than the cooling water of the conventional cycle. Therefore, one of the difficulties in constructing this cycle is reducing the pressure and repressing it below atmospheric pressure. To address this issue, we use two-stage evaporation and absorption, which reduces solution concentration and working pressure. Consequently, we developed a prototype of a double-output AHPC. The working pair of this machine is water/lithium bromide, and heating and cooling capacities are 296 kW and 158 kW, respectively. The experimental results from this machine showed an integrated COP of 3.3, which is defined as the sum of the heating and cooling COPs. Double-output AHPCs have already been installed in some district heating and cooling plants and operated as originally designed.
