Development and evaluation of high performance, low GWP refrigerants for air conditioning and refrigeration.

Résumé
The development of reduced GWP refrigerant gases to use in new and existing refrigeration and air-conditioning systems is described. The design trade-offs and implications with regards to system performance with these new refrigerants, and regulatory scenarios are discussed. This paper shows that it is possible to develop high performance refrigerant blends that match performance of R410A and R404A if regulations will support GWP weighted refrigerant options and allow refrigerants with substantially reduced GWP that have high capacity and good energy efficiency performance. For some applications it is possible to have non flammable, reduced GWP replacement refrigerants.
