Résumé

CO2 has had a long tradition in the refrigeration technology reaching far into the 19th century. It has no ozone depleting potential, a basic value of GWP = 1 and therefore a negligible direct global warming effect, is chemically inactive, non flammable and is only harmful to the health in high concentrations. CO2 is cheap and there is no necessity for recovery and disposal. In addition, it has a very high volumetric refrigeration capacity, which equates to approx. 5-8 times more than R22 and NH3.
